My fav barbers by far. They really listen to what you want and actually do it as requested. All staff v.friendly and accommodating. They offer drinks etc and make you feel v.welcome. Highly recommend!
R.W. Wolf is the barbers Old Street turns to when the queue at the desk-side place runs long. The nearest chair is a few minutes’ walk from the roundabout, at our Liverpool Street shop on Blomfield Street. A consultation comes first on every visit, it’s walk-in only, and there’s nothing to book.
Old Street Roundabout sits right where Silicon Roundabout’s tech and creative businesses meet the edge of the City. Most people searching for Old Street barbers on a Tuesday lunchtime aren’t after a spa afternoon. They want fifteen minutes, a barber who actually listens, and to be back at their desk before the next call. That’s what R.W. Wolf does, a short walk south at Liverpool Street.
You won’t be handed a laminated menu and left to work it out. A consultation comes first, every time: what you want, how your hair actually behaves, and what to ask for next time so you don’t have to explain yourself twice. If you’re not sure what suits you, say so, that’s exactly what the consultation is for.
Then the technique does the rest. A hot towel opens the pores and softens the beard before the blade touches anything, then the blade goes with the grain, then against it, then a cold towel closes everything down. That’s Turkish barbering, not a decoration on the price list, and it’s why the finish holds past Friday.
For a straightforward trim between meetings, a Hair Cut or Buzz Cut takes less time. For a beard that’s gone past presentable, a beard trim is shaped to your face rather than trimmed to a single length.
None of this requires you to arrive knowing the vocabulary. “A bit shorter on top” is a fine place to start. The barber will ask about your face shape, how your hair grows, and what you actually do with it day to day. That gets translated into a fade height and a length you can repeat yourself between visits.
R.W. Wolf has been named Wahl British Barber Shop of the Year 2024. The idea behind it isn’t complicated: you get asked what you want before anyone picks up a blade. It’s the one thing customers mention back most often, unprompted, and it’s worth more here than another line about heritage.
It matters more on this side of the City than most places. Old Street runs on start-up hours and freelance schedules, not a fixed lunch break. That means the same barber sees you looking different each visit: a beard grown out for a fortnight, a fade left too long, a style copied from a photo that doesn’t quite suit your hair. Being asked rather than assumed, every time, is the actual point.
From Old Street station, it’s one stop south on the Northern line to Moorgate, then a short walk to Blomfield Street.
If you’d rather stay above ground, the 55, 243 and 76 buses all run past Old Street and stop within a few minutes of the shop. Coming from City Road or St Luke’s, it’s a flat walk down through Finsbury Square. No more than fifteen minutes, even at a slow pace.
A Hair Cut is £40. A Buzz Cut is £30. Tame the Beast, the full package covering consultation, cut, beard shaping, waxing, threading and a finishing mask, isn’t listed on the price page yet.

No, nowhere in the group takes bookings. Walk in and you’ll be seen in order. Lunchtime tends to be the busiest window for the roundabout crowd, so getting there just before midday or after half one usually means walking straight into a chair.
A Hair Cut is £40 and a Buzz Cut is £30 at the Liverpool Street shop.
The full list: Hair Cut, Wolf Skin Fade, Shave & Beard Design, Young Wolf, Buzz Cut, Threading, Waxing, Mask, and Tame the Beast, all at the Liverpool Street shop.
One stop on the Northern line to Moorgate, then a short walk to Blomfield Street. The 55, 243 and 76 buses also run past Old Street and stop close by.
Neither, strictly. The roundabout sits right on the boundary between the two, and the nearest shop either way is Liverpool Street. Our Shoreditch page covers the Redchurch Street side of the neighbourhood, if that’s closer to where you’re starting from.
There’s no service charge added at the till, and tipping is entirely up to you.
